Inishowen 1sts 76 - 0 holywood
05
January 2008
Inishowen
racked up one of the highest ever scores in the 30 year
history of the club in the junior 4 league.
With a resounding victory over a shellshocked holywood
side.
It may have been more only the referee decided to blow
the game up 15 mins early with the county down men taking
a severe pounding at that stage. There was still 12
tries scored none the less, with 8 conversions by Finn
McCormick......IT would take too long to explain all
tries ,but the scorers on the day were James Carr(2),mojo(3),Mark
Glasha(2),Conor Mulkerns(1),Phelim Tuckey(1),Finn(1),
one from Brian Harkin which was his 1st try in 6 years, and
finally a try from Crawford Norris on an excellent debut
for the 1st team............Performance wise ,The Inishowen
backs have had great praise thru the season, but it was
all about the forwards on saturday. Picking and driving, mauling, pop
passes, inter passing, offloads and great lines of running. It
was all there to see from the rampant Inishowen pack. All
of this made it much easier for the backs, as it took
the pressure off them to break the gain lines, and indeed
was all go forward ball when they did receive it.
Inishowen
on this form are formiddable..............Great work
was done by Kevin Gallagher on rucking mid week, and
the lineout got attention aswell at training. Which
improved retaining possession no end compared to the
previous 2 matches.
It would be unfair to single out anyone as all 15 men
were excellent on the day,and I'm sure everyone came
off the park feeling they had done very well for their
team.........The hope is now that the 'showen' men can
continue to play in this style, for with so many ball
carriers up front and also out the backs,it would be
a bad idea for any team to defend in just one area............Turnip
of the week has to go to Paul McMeniman, who diving
over the line and celebrating a try, then realised he
was actually 5 metres short, and then proceded to blame
president John Merrit for not making the try line more
noticable when lining the pitch...A very funny moment
but paul took all his stick very well it has to be said............We
hope to see Club captain back at some stage who's been
out with bronchitis........
