Limavady 3rd's 3 - 6 Inishowen 2nd's
November 7th 2009
The Inishowen 2nd XV finally registered a hard earned win in the Ulster Minor League on Sat. away to Limavady.
The game wasn't a spectacle but non-the-less, a win is a win.
Good work by the forwards kept Inishowen on the front foot for the bulk of match & when needed they also showed a mean defence to deny the hosts even a sniff of a try. By half time the visitors led 3-0 & could have been out of sight had they not squandered three good try scoring opportunities. Limavady almost made them regret their white-line fever when they equalised through their captain Gerry McLaughlin from 30m but again the Inishowen forwards came to the fore.
At a Limavady scrum on the half way line, they forced a turnover & good pressure drove the home side back behind their own goal line. In a moment of panic, a defender knocked the ball dead over the end line resulting in an attacking penalty from virtually in front of the posts. A gratefull Mick Dundee slotted over the kick to re-take the lead & Inishowen's defence held out for the final five minutes to seal the win on a score line of 3-6.
Good displays on the day came from Nathan Noone, Phil McFadden & the return of Anthony Cantwell from injury to the back row added great mobility. Seamus Hickey was dominant in the line out & Inishowen's two substitutes, Matthew Peaples & Owen Doherty also made an impact when the came in.
Team Captain Matthew McCrossan missed his sides first taste of victory this year, but he can be forgiven as Mr.s McCrossan had just delivered him a baby girl. Congrats to them.
With a run of three home games in as many weeks, Inishowen will be looking to build some momentum before the McCambley Cup game in early December. Training continues on Thursday nights at 7.15pm sharp.
