U18 School Rugby –
Carndonagh V Moville
Carndonagh CS was the venue for a recent U18 game between Carndonagh and Moville College, The game was organised between the two teachers in charge of rugby Mark Spencer and Maurice Harkin. The final score was very ne sided towards the larger Carndonagh team however Moville showed great spirit in keeping going until the final whistle. The growth of rugby continues to flourish in Inishowen with all four secondary school being involved in the IRFU Donegal Community Rugby Project and it will not be long before Inishowen RFC will have the use of these players at senior level to boost their ranks in the Ulster league.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the past 5 years or so, Inishowen rugby
club has made great progress in its competition on the field
of play which has seen numerous cup finals and league promotions
and has helped to raise the level of awareness of our sport
in the general locality.
What it has lacked thus far however is a youth
section to provide an outlet for the numerous young people from
within Inishowen who would like the opportunity to play the
game, and in time come through the ranks to represent the club
at adult level
With the advent of a groundbreaking new scheme
however, this may be about to change. The 4 Donegal clubs, Inishowen,
Donegal Town, Letterkenny and Ballyshannon, have been instrumental
in attracting considerable backing and support from the IRFU
in initiating a county wide development plan. The “Donegal
Rugby Community Project” will provide help and assistance
to its members in helping to create a sustainable Rugby community
that will, given time provide a quality experience for all members
of our society from children through to their grandparents.
Hopefully
this will mean that in the very near future this project, with
the aid of a variety of initiatives, Inishowen will be able
to supply a top quality programme for the youth of the peninsula
in a fun, enjoyable environment that will be available to all.
Is the next Keith Wood or Brian O Driscoll going to
be a local lad? why not!
